EMY Africa Awards makes grand entry with elegant Lagos soiree

The awards also extends a deserving salute to women who defy norms and rewrite the rules

Lagos, or Eko as it is known by those who hold it dear to their hearts, came to a tranquil stillness as the stars aligned inside the luxurious Mercedes-Benz Centre in the heart of Victoria Island on Sunday (13 August 2023).

The EMY Africa Awards led by Ghana’s Kojo Soboh took over the city in an elegant soiree, welcoming an exclusive guest list that read a who’s who of industry leaders, creatives, celebrities, business magnates, and notable personalities.

The evening was not just a tribute to excellence and a platform for forging connections; it was a mesmerising spectacle of entertainment that left attendees spellbound.

Founded by the visionary Kojo Soboh, the EMY Africa Awards has carved its place in history by honouring exceptional African men. These individuals, through their remarkable achievements and inspiring efforts, have ignited positive change across the continent and far beyond.

As a prelude to the 8th Annual EMY Africa Awards, set to hold on 14 October in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, the Lagos soiree was a night etched in memory. Throughout the enchanting evening, conversations flowed like poetry, and the air itself buzzed with an invigorating energy that set the tone for the night’s festivities.

This evening of celebration and excellence reaffirms our commitment to honouring those who mold Africa’s story with their exceptional contributions, ” Kojo Soboh, founder of EMY Africa Awards remarked at the start of the event.

Enriching speeches by luminaries like Mary Ojulari, Managing Director of Mercedes Benz Nigeria, and Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, chairman of the board for EMY Africa, echoed the event’s theme of celebrating the pinnacle of achievement.

A fireside chat between Kojo Soboh and the effervescent Latasha Ngwube, the project’s lead PR, resonated with the evening’s essence.

Promising an evening of excitement, the event certainly delivered. The evening unfolded with a captivating performance by the acclaimed magician Babs Cardini, followed by musical enchantment courtesy of Dapo Pelmar.
