Staff of UDS to demonstrate 29 November

The agitation follows management's refusal to recognise certificates obtained through distance learning by the staff

The senior staff association of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has threatened to demonstrate against management’s refusal to promote some staff of the institution.

The agitation follows management’s refusal to recognise certificates obtained through distance learning by the staff.

Speaking to Asaase News, the chairman of the senior staff association of UDS, Zakariya Mohammed, described the directive as gross disrespect.

“All those who have gone for distance programmes and have returned and are due for promotions have been denied on the basis of the fact that they did not go for full-time course.

“And the intriguing issue is that this is a university that has a centre for distance learning, managed and paid by director and then we go there, pursue further course and you’re telling us that because it is distance and not a full-time course you are not going to promote us,” Mohammed said.

He said the association has therefore served notice to demonstrate on 29 November if the directive is not immediately reversed.
