NUGS to teacher unions: Reconsider your strike

NUGS has called on the teachers to resort to other means to address their grievances instead of letting students suffer

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on Tuesday (8 November) called on striking teacher unions to return to the lecture halls.

NUGS has called on the teachers to resort to other means to address their grievances instead of letting students suffer.

The teacher unions want the government to revoke the appointment of the new Ghana Education Service (GES) director general Eric Nkansah, arguing he does not have the requisite qualification for the job.

“We appreciate the right of the unions to disagree with decisions by government and management,” NUGS said in a statement. “We also believe that students must not be made to suffer the consequences of every disagreement or impasse.”

NUGS also appealed to the parties involved in the strike to prioritise and make students interest paramount, indicating that, such acts are a detriment to good education and the future of students.
