Isaac Newman, a clinical psychologist has called on families to take parenting seriously in a bid to reduce the spate of domestic violence in Ghana.
Newman believes the upbringing of children plays a critical role in contributing to tackling the menace of domestic violence.
Speaking to sit-in host of the Asaase Breakfast Show, Benjamin Offei-Addo on Friday (5 May), Newman said the role of families in addressing the menace is critical.
“Personally, what I tend to focus on in any situation… is also childhood development and how children develop. Why do some children grow up to be very responsible adults and while others grow up to become dysfunctional adult?” Newman asked.
“And I think that we need to take parenting very seriously,” he added.
“Then again we need to look at the family systems, and the things we put in place when it comes to family and how we resolve things,” Newman said. “A lot of times when people are abused, families tend to blame the person.”
