Rev. Ransford Obeng, General Overseer of the Calvary Charismatic Center (CCC), has condemned the recent deadly violence involving AngloGold Ashanti security personnel and suspected illegal miners at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The clash, which claimed nine lives and left scores injured, has drawn widespread concern. Rev. Obeng called for restraint and emphasized the need for Ghanaians to respect the rule of law to maintain peace and order in the country.
“The loss of human life is serious because God is the creator of life, and He is the only person that has the prerogative to take somebody’s life. We mourn with those who have lost their loved ones. Nobody is above the law. Let us all understand that we live in a country governed by laws, and nobody should take the law into their own hands,” Rev. Obeng stated.
He further expressed his dismay at the events in Obuasi, describing them as a tragic reminder of the need for peaceful dialogue and cooperation in resolving disputes.
“What happened in Obuasi is unfortunate and should never happen in a country where we claim to value life and the rule of law. It is a wake-up call for all of us to prioritize dialogue over violence,” he added.
“We have elected a new president. If there is anything you need to do, pray for that president and cooperate with him. Anything that causes violence and loss of lives discredits the president,” he said.
The Senior Pastor made these remarks ahead an event to announce the church’s upcoming conference, “Start Well,” which aims to empower Ghanaians to begin the new year with purpose and positivity.
The conference will be held at the church auditorium at Ayigya in the Ashanti Region from Thursday 23 to Saturday 25 January 2025. Giving keynote address is the renowned founder of International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil.
Rev. Obeng emphasized the importance of personal empowerment in starting the new year on a strong note. He extended an open invitation to all Ghanaians to participate in the conference.
“It is always good when you start everything well. Anytime we are beginning a new year, everyone makes resolutions of what they want to do. Sometimes, you make the resolution without being properly informed. So, if you have such a good communicator who is coming to help us, we will base our resolutions spiritually and biblically, and then God will be able to help us achieve them,” he stated.
Rev Ransford Obeng urged the newly sworn in president John Dramani Mahama, to live up to the promises made to the people of Ghana during his 2024 presidential Campaign.
He however warned that the nation will only enjoy the benefits of good governance and economic prosperity if the citizenry rally together to support the president execute his agenda.
“I urge Ghanaians to support the NDC government to implement its ideas and policies so that together we can enjoy the fruits of a better economy”, Rev. Obeng advised.
