Casablanca sets the stage for the world with its first-ever Music Week
Organised at La Casablancaise — a vast, evolving urban space — the festival is envisioned as a multidisciplinary event blending music, cinema, sport, gaming and intellectual discussions

The Moroccan economic capital is gearing up for a landmark event that could redefine its cultural identity.
From the 20th to 24th of June 2025, the White City will host the inaugural edition of Casablanca Music Week (CMW), a bold initiative set to place Casablanca firmly on the international arts map.
A major cultural project for Casablanca
Organised at La Casablancaise — a vast, evolving urban space — the festival is envisioned as a multidisciplinary event blending music, cinema, sport, gaming and intellectual discussions.
The project is spearheaded by NRJ Morocco, an organisation already recognised for its contribution to musical events across the Kingdom.
By adopting this diverse format, CMW’s organisers are signalling a clear departure from traditional festival models. Their ambition is to position Casablanca as a leading cultural hub in North Africa, taking inspiration from globally renowned events like South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin and We Love Green in Paris.
An international line-up with a local touch
Casablanca Music Week promises a vibrant and eclectic musical offering. Major international artists such as Shaggy, Wyclef Jean, Gims, Dadju, Tayc, FloyyMenor, En Vogue and rising Congolese star Anzor Alem have all been announced, underscoring the festival’s global aspirations.
Yet, organisers hint that the real strength of CMW lies in its unique blend of global headliners and emerging local talents — a line-up that remains partly under wraps.
“The idea is to create a meeting point between global sounds and the emerging voices of the African continent,” a source close to the project revealed.
A city undergoing cultural transformation
CMW is not just a music festival; it aims to spark wider conversations about Casablanca’s role in contemporary creativity.
A range of activities, including outdoor film screenings, e-sports tournaments, sports exhibitions and a series of cultural talks, will anchor the festival’s broader vision of a city reinventing itself through culture.
This direction is no coincidence. For several years, Casablanca has sought to revitalise its image beyond its reputation as Morocco’s economic powerhouse.
By embracing the creative industries, the city hopes to attract new audiences, strengthen its local arts scene, and establish itself as a vital cultural capital on the African continent.
A test for Morocco’s cultural landscape
Whether CMW’s first edition lives up to expectations remains to be seen. Should it succeed, Casablanca Music Week could carve out a lasting place on the regional cultural calendar.
Still, the stakes are high. Organisers must win over a discerning public, ensure seamless logistics, and craft a coherent festival experience across multiple disciplines.
At a time when festivals across the globe are multiplying, CMW stands out as a bold attempt at innovation. With its rich mix of identities and ambitions, Casablanca appears ready to rise to the challenge.
