Calls for neutral venue emerge ahead of Ashanti Council of State election rerun

Nana Nkansah Boadu, a key contender in the Ashanti Council of State election, has expressed concerns over the selection of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) as the venue for the upcoming rerun.

Nana Nkansah Boadu, a key contender in the Ashanti Council of State election, has expressed concerns over the selection of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) as the venue for the upcoming rerun.

His campaign team argues that the location could compromise the integrity of the process and are calling for an alternative venue to ensure fairness and transparency.

Addressing a press conference on Friday (14 February) the team stated that while they are in favour of the rerun taking place as scheduled, they strongly oppose holding it at the RCC due to fears of undue influence and potential voter manipulation.

“We are not against a rerun if it is scheduled for Monday, but we will not allow the election to be held at the RCC. We are advocating for a different venue to ensure a fair process,” a spokesperson for the team, Lord Inusah Lansah stated.

He further alleged that there were ongoing efforts to alter the voter register by swearing in new government appointees who could influence the election outcome.

“What we are hearing is that, as we speak, there is a swearing-in of new members who are going to form government appointees. The fear is that these newly sworn-in members will be used to tamper with the register,” he claimed.

The Ashanti Council of State election, initially held earlier, was marred by violence, leading to the decision for a rerun. However, the latest concerns raised by Nana Nkansah Boadu’s team have added to the tensions surrounding the process.

Authorities have yet to officially respond to these concerns, but stakeholders continue to monitor the situation as the election date approaches.
