Some oil marketing companies increase fuel prices

The government has introduced two levies resulting in an increment in fuel prices at the pump

Some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have started adjusting fuel prices to reflect the latest increased levies announced in the 2021 Budget Statement.

Last week the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) announced that an increase in the energy sector levy plus the introduction of the new sanitation and pollution levy as well as other margins will commence from 1 May 2021.

Additionally, in line with the deregulation of the downstream sector, some major oil marketing companies including Total and shell have increased prices by 11.2%. Petrol is now going for GHC6.13 per litre.

Meanwhile, Kwaku Agyeman Duah, industry coordinator for the Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs), has however justified the increment despite agitation by some stakeholders.

Speaking on Energy 101, Agyemang Duah said these levies are needed by the government to run the state.
