Petroleum Commission to construct world-class pipe-fitting centre at TTU
The welding and pipe-fitting project will be realised under the Accelerated Oil and Gas Capacity Building Programme (AOGC) and sited at the Takoradi Technical University
The Petroleum Commission will construct a world-class training centre for welding and pipe-fitting under the Accelerated Oil and Gas Capacity-Building Programme (AOGC) at Takoradi Technical University (TTU).
A letter dated 30 September 2020, signed by Anthony Dzadzra, the acting chief director of the Energy Ministry, and addressed to the chief executive officer of the Petroleum Commission, said the building of the centre is being undertaken “for the purpose of training Ghanaians and to equip them with skills to qualify for jobs in Ghana’s petroleum upstream industry”.
The Ministry of Energy further said in the letter that it is pleased with the initiative taken by the AOGC and is looking forward to being furnished with frequent updates on the progress of the project.
The AOGC programme
The AOGC was established in November 2017 with the intent to enhance the capacity of Ghanaians to enable them to work in the oil and gas sector.
The programme will be in effect for five years. It aims to train individuals in various technical and vocational areas, build the capacity of educational institutions to enable them to train students and provide internationally recognised training certificates, provide business and management training for SMEs, and ensure the continuous professional development of employees of various public institutions connected to the oil and gas industry.
The programme will ensure the creation of jobs and professional integration pathways, facilitate capacity-building of educational and training institutes, and invest in education and skills enhancement.
It will also minimise the cost of training, localise training, improve the quality of education/training relating to the petroleum upstream sector, empower local companies to participate actively in the oil and gas industry, train Ghanaians in high-job-creating sectors (welding, pipe-fitting, fabrication and installation) and encourage women’s participation in the AOGC.
