Asamoah Gyan named in NPP’s manifesto committee

The Ghanaian football legend will serve as chairman of the youth and sports sub-committee of the governing NPP

Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan has been named in the 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) manifesto committee.

He will chair the youth and sports sub-committee of the ruling party’s 2024 manifesto committee.

Gyan’s appointment to the role not only reflects his personal ambition to advance the sports industry but also presents him with a unique opportunity to steer the nation’s sporting trajectory.

In a recent statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Gyan articulated his vision for leveraging his extensive experience to drive positive change in Ghanaian sports.

Reflecting on his career journey, encompassing triumphs and setbacks, Gyan expressed confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to the sector.

“When I look back at my career, my highs, my low[s], my failures and my success, I think I have enough experience and the techniques to contribute in sports. I always ask myself, How do we create change if we don’t want to change? How do [we] spectate without being on the bench, and how do we score without being on the field?” Gyan remarked.

Furthermore, the former Black Stars captain emphasised the significance of intergenerational knowledge transfer, advocating for veteran sports figures to impart their wisdom to emerging talents.

“How do we pass on the baton to the next generation if we don’t share our experience? How do we achieve [this] without a clear path ahead? I believe that with a collective experiences, we can orient the next generation to do better than what we did. We can give hope where hope is lost, and we can inspire when all hope seems lost.”
