Dr Lloyd Amoah, the director at the Centre for Asian Studies at the University of Ghana has stated that Ghana lost the opportunity to exploit the Chinese market to its advantage 15 years ago.

Speaking to Beatrice Adu on Town Hall Talk on Asaase Radio, Dr Amoah said currently, Ghana can only exploit about 30% of the Chinese market if it puts its act together.

“To be brutally frank with you, I think the China possibilities is gone. It’s over, we are not going to be able to really exploit this China advantage the way we could have, let say 15 years ago, when some of us were making noise,” he said.

He added: “China has become like a beautiful damsel that everybody is courting, it was not like that before.”

Dr Amoah is therefore advising the West African country to focus on exploiting other emerging Asian economies like Korea and Malaysia.

“Asia itself has prospects, there is Korea, Japan, there is Singapore, there is Malaysia, there is Indonesia, what are we doing about all that… people want to come and do massive rice, nobody listens in this town.”
