It’s false, NPP denies Wontumi arrest

A video circulating on social media depicting the arrest of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Chairman Wontumi, is false

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described as false, reports that its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been arrested by the police.

Footage widely shared on social media suggested that Wontumi had been picked up for allegedly printing ballot papers at an undisclosed hotel in Kumasi in the run-up to the elections.

However, in a statement issued on Saturday (5 December), the Special Aide to the Regional Chairman, Andy Owusu, said: “This is once again another ploy by the NDC to divert attention from their imminent defeat on Monday.”

“The said incident occurred in 2016 and was discovered through intelligence from the Regional Chairman”, the statement pointed out.

“We entreat everyone to treat the said video with all the contempt it deserves as it is an old one,” the statement added.
