AngloGold Ashanti adjudged Mining Company of the Year
AngloGold Ashanti won the award for excelling in sustainable environmental management, occupational, health and safety and corporate social investment mining among others
AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine has emerged as the Mining Company of the Year at the sixth Ghana Mining Industry Awards organized by the Ghana Chamber of Mines in Accra.
The prestigious mining company of the year is awarded to a firm that has excelled in sustainable environmental management, occupational, health and safety, corporate social investment mining innovation and fiscal contribution to the state.
This year’s event saw Stephen Osei -Bempah walking away with the Mining Personality of the Year in the President’s Award category.
Lifetime Achievement Award of the year went to Kwesi Enyan with the best Female Mining Professional of the Year going to Catherine Kuupol kuutor.
Speaking at the event, Eric Asubonteng, president of the Ghana Chamber of Mines said the sector has contributed significantly towards government quest in fighting the novel coronavirus pandemic.
“In view of the impact of the pandemic on both national and global economies, the Chamber in April voluntarily supported government’s effort to curtail the pandemic by donating items worth GHC11.5 million to the Ministry of Health.
On his part the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh emphasized that the need for the chamber to work diligently at reaching the heights of sustainable and responsible mining must be paramount.
