Sampson Tangombu Chiragia, the opposition MP for Navrongo Central in the Upper East Region, has promised to complete projects initiated by his immediate predecessor, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP Joseph Kofi Adda.
Chiragia said his plans to complete the projects not only stem from the fact that completing them will benefit constituents, but because he wants to preserve the memory of the late MP, who contributed immensely to the area’s development.
Chiragia, who was speaking in an interview on the Navrongo-based Pure Radio, said he has already initiated talks with the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly to see if some money Adda left in the MPs’ Common Fund coffers will be released for the purpose.
He said he would identify the projects that Adda would have loved to complete if he was alive and ensure his wishes are fulfilled.

“Kofi Adda still had some money in the Common Fund. We’re still talking about it with the assembly,” Chiragia said.
“All the projects that he started which are dear to his heart and he hadn’t completed, we will try our best to complete them and name them after him to keep his memory.
“I have already spoken to the MCE and the assembly, and it will be one of the things I will pursue.”
Other projects
On other development matters, the MP listed a number of initiatives he is undertaking.
These include the installation of 200 streetlights to curb robbery, the refurbishment of two CHPS compounds in the Korania and Nyangua communities, the construction of boreholes and the building of a resource centre for dressmakers and hairdressers.
Chiragia said in his interview that in spite of the many challenges he faces as a first-time MP, he is working to meet the most pressing needs of constituents and speed up all aspects of development.
He urged the people to pray for him continuously as he works to give them good representation in Parliament.
“It is not easy,” Chiragia said, speaking in Kasem. “As you know, I won the parliamentary election but my father [John Dramani Mahama] did not win the presidential. So, I don’t have a father.
“But I will continue to work hard to bring development to the constituency. I will continue to go wherever I can go and do whatever I can do to get money to develop the constituency,” he said.
