A life coach, Amos Kevin-Annan has reiterated the need for the country to adopt a national language.
Kevin-Annan believes adopting a national language is crucial towards entrenching the Ghanaian culture and identity.
Talking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Monday (10 January) on the subject of “Starting 2022 right: living a value driven life,” Kevin-Annan said: “There is something that defines us as a people, so we must always come to the global meals table with our menu and that will not be rejected by the global community because they appreciate that we are distinct.”
“And our distinctiveness must be taught from an early stage to the young people, the reason you call yourself Asaase and not the earth. You chose Asaase, you could have chosen earth, why? Because it is a distinctive brand that portray something that is indigenous in nature.”
“It is the reason we don’t have one language in this country as a national language, whereas Kenya has Swahili, very wonderful, other parts of East Africa have it as well, why are we not having a national language,” Kevin-Annan added.
He believes that Ghana’s culture must be relooked at in line with contemporary development .
“So, this is why I encourage people to have deep reflections on this matters because there are no easy answers to it, it is like family roles, now people are bogged down to traditional roles, the man is called bread winner so forever he is the breadwinner… what the individual has forgotten is that there is a contemporary situation,” Kevin-Annan said.
