Confirmed Kassena-Nankana MCE: I’ll tackle developmental challenges

He said other sectors that would be on his priority list are education, health and security, adding he would spearhead economic growth

The newly sworn-in chief executive for the Kassena-Nankana municipal assembly in the Upper East Region, Joseph Adongo, has served notice he will champion development projects in the area.

He said other sectors that would be on his priority list are education, health and security, adding he would lead a team that would see to an economic turnaround in the lives of the people.

The MCE said representing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the local assembly is a rare privilege and he would commit to serve and champion the development of the area through the various policies and interventions of the government.

Adongo said helping the President to deliver on his mandate was his main focus and gave the assurance to always open his doors to all development advocates.

Speaking after he bagged a massive endorsement from 46 out of the 47 assembly members, Adongo said, “this municipality is faced with a lot of issues. This is not the right forum to discuss these issues, but it is worth noting that we have security issues, health, education issues and the rest. I will like to say that having been confirmed, I will carry out the development of the municipality”.

“I assure that I am going to work with everybody who have the interest of this municipality at heart. It therefore means that everybody is on board,” he added.

For his part, the Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu, urged the assembly members to work closely to propel the development of the municipality which he noted was paramount.

He told them to let the spirit of patriotism be their guide in all endeavours.

Yakubu mentioned some interventions by the government such as the construction of district hospitals, which he stressed were part of the government’s efforts to boost health care delivery in the region especially in the era of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The confirmation of Adongo makes him the first sitting assembly member of the assembly to be elevated to the position of chief executive. Until his nomination and subsequent endorsement, Adongo was the presiding member of the assembly and assemblyman for the Kologo Electoral Area; a position he has occupied for three consecutive terms.
