Bullion van attack: GAB donates GHC50,000 to family of murdered police officer

Constable Emmanuel Osei of the National SWAT was guarding a bullion van when he was killed in Adedenkpo, a quarter of James Town, in June this year

The Ghana Association of Bankers (GAB) has donated the sum of GHC50,000 to the family of the late police officer who was murdered in Accra while guarding a bullion van.

The association made the donation after paying a visit to the outgoing director general in charge of welfare of the Ghana Police Service, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Friday.

It was to express their appreciation to the police administration for the immeasurable support to the family of the late Constable Emmanuel Osei.

Constable Osei was killed in the line of duty in Adedenkpo, a quarter of James Town, Accra, on 14 June this year.

Until his death, he was with the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit. He was promoted posthumously to the rank of lance corporal.

GHC20,000 reward for information

Meanwhile, the police have placed a bounty of GHC20,000 on the killers in the Adedenkpo bullion van attack. The announcement was made by Superintendent Sheilla Kessie Abayie-Buckman, director of public affairs for the Police Service.

She said the offer is to encourage the general public to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.

“Police continue to encourage the public to be on the lookout for the perpetrators of the heinous crime that occurred in James Town in Accra.

“The Inspector General of Police has announced the reward of GHC20,000 to any person who gives credible information to the police for the arrest of the perpetrators and in this regard we assure informants of utmost protection of their identity,” Abayie-Buckman said.
