Bridge collapse in Gomoa Okyereko: road now open to motorists, says NADMO

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (7 June), the Gomoa East District director of NADMO, Robert Nana Hackman, said the Okyereko road reopened at about 9pm on Thursday after repair work

The Gomoa Okyereko section of the Accra-Cape Coast highway, which caved in after the Ayensu River overflowed, flooding the area and submerging vast farmland, has been reopened.

The main Accra-Winneba highway suffered disruption in traffic flow after a contractor working on the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway diverted the Ayensu River.

According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the flood has left residents stranded, forcing them to seek shelter at a local church.

Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday (7 June), the Gomoa East District director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Robert Nana Hackman, said the road opened around 9pm on Thursday after repair work.

“Yesterday, with the help from the district engineer and the contractor himself, we were able to fix the road and it was opened around 9.34pm,” Hackman said.

“Currently the road diversion has been closed and motorists and passengers plying Kasoa to Winneba, Apam, Mankessim, Takoradi, Cape Coast can now use the old road,” he said.

Meanwhile, NADMO has supplied the residents of the area affected by the flooding with relief items.
