Bridge collapse in Gomoa Okyereko: Motorists advised to use Winneba-Ojobi-Akoti junction road

The Gomoa Okyereko section of the Accra-Cape Coast highway has caved in after the Ayensu River overflowed, flooding the area and submerging several farmlands.

The main Accra-Winneba highway has suffered disruption in vehicular traffic flow after a contractor working on the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway diverted the Ayensu River.

Report suggests the flood has left residents stranded forcing them to seek shelter in a local church.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Highway Authority advised motorists travelling from Accra to Cape Coast and vice versa to use the Winneba -Ojobi – Akoti junction on the N1.

“The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), acting on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Highways (MRH), is alerting the general public and motorists that the Okyereko Bridge over the River Ayensu in the Gomoa East district of the Central Region is currently overtopped due to the continuous heavy downpour and rising water levels.”

“In the interim, motorists travelling from Accra to Cape Coast are advised to connect through, Akoti- Ojobi- Winneba Road. Motorists from Cape Coast to Accra are also advised to use the Winneba -Ojobi – Akoti junction on the N1,” the statement said.

“We understand the inconvenience this has caused and assure you that, our engineers and technical team will work diligently to address the situation as quickly as practicable. Your cooperation and patience are greatly cherished as we work towards ensuring your safety and the restoration of normal traffic flow.” the statement added.
