Bono Region: National Ambulance Service saves over 10,000 lives within 10 years
The beneficiaries according to the regional manager of NAS, Alfred Kwabena Amoah were saved during different emergency health issues including road traffic accidents, maternal, and paediatric cases, medical cases and some special duty cases.
Alfred Kwabena Amoah spoke to the media at the Bono Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Excellence Awards and Fundraising organised by the National Ambulance Service in Sunyani.
“As we speak for 10 years, we have saved over 10,000 people’s lives, between 2014 to 2023. Among these people we saved, the medical patients are the majority, they are the people that the hospital refers to, those who were in critical condition. Aside from that, we have traffic accident cases, maternal, and paediatric cases, medical cases, and some special duty cases” said Amoah.
Alfred Kwabena Amoah, however, called for additional ambulances in areas like Abesim, Chiraa, and Seikwa to facilitate quick response to emergencies.
“If you look at the Bono Region, we have areas like Chira, Abesim and Seikwa. These are areas where if we get an ambulance there it would help. Between Chiraa and Techiman we have an ambulance on that stretch of road so in case of emergency, Sunyani or Techiman ambulance has to go to the accident scene and the distance is far. So, if we get additional ambulances it would help,” Amoah said.
On challenges, Alfred Kwabena Amoah expressed worry over the disregard for sirens by a section of road users and called on the public to give way whenever they hear the sound of a siren.
Deserving staff were given awards for their contribution to saving lives in the region with the 2023 EMS personnel of the year going to the second in command of the Sunyani Ambulance Station, Joseph Kusi Frimpong.
The CEO of the National Ambulance Service, Prof Ahmed Nuhu Zakaria later broke the ground for the construction of the Regional Office of the NAS in the Bono Region.
The Bono Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Excellence Awards and Fundraising of the National Ambulance Service (NAS) in Sunyani was under the theme “Honouring our Heroes, Building Legacy for Patient Care”.
The colourful event was attended by the CEO of the NAS, Prof Ahmed Nuhu Zakaria, Former Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, staff of the NAS from the 12 districts and municipalities of the Bono Region as well as some security agencies.
