Gloria Sarfo: Ghana’s movie industry “wasted my youthful” days

According to her, “apart from Efiewura [a popular Ghanaian television sitcom] that I invested my youthfulness in, there was no opportunity anywhere else"

Ghanaian actress, Gloria Sarfo, has taken a swipe at Ghana’s movie industry, saying it wasted her youthfulness.

According to her, “apart from Efiewura [a popular Ghanaian television sitcom] that I invested my youthfulness in, there was no opportunity anywhere else.”

Speaking on Asaase 99.5 Accra‘s Between Hours show, the Efiewura star said, “I had a lot in me, you could feel that I had a lot in me, and I wish I did more.”

“The movie industry wasted my youth,” she told Naa Ashorkor on Wednesday (31 May).

“I sometimes go for auditions at Afrikiko at 7am and leave there at 7pm, and by the time you realise, the movie will be airing on TV, and you would still not have a role yet, and this was continuous,” she recalled.

She, however, blamed Ghanaian movie producers and directors for the ineffectiveness of the industry.

“And most of the producers and directors, all they do is see a beautiful lady on the streets, and just give them roles, with no movie experiences, or passion to act.

“And I can tell you this, most of the big actresses you see, that was how they got to fame, and I don’t want to mention any names.

“If I decide to share my experiences in this industry, it might just deter some of the upcoming actors and actresses, and I don’t want to be the one to make someone lose interest in acting,“ Sarfo said.
