The vice-president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has led a delegation to visit the families of two men who were killed when security personnel clashed with protesters in Ejura in the Ashanti Region.
The delegation included the National Chief Imam, Dr Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah, and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah.
The delegation is in Ejura to commiserate with the families of the two men – Abdul Nasiw and Muntala Mohammed – killed when a joint deployment of military and police clashed with angry youth in the town during the funeral of Ibrahim Mohammed “Kaaka” on Tuesday 29 June.
Welcoming the delegation, Barima Osei-Hwidie II, the chief of Ejura, expressed confidence in the process being adopted by the government to resolve the matter.
He told the vice-president that stakeholders in Ejura have launched an initiative to construct a police divisional headquarters in the town to help avert future disturbances.
