Bono Region starts six-day door to door COVID vaccination

A total of 415,154 people have had their first dose in the Bono Region, representing 48.2% of the over 860,000 people eligible for vaccination

A six-day door to door COVID vaccination drive has taken off in the Bono Region as part of measures to get more people to be inoculated against the virus in Ghana.

The Bono regional health directorate is collaborating with Jhpiego Ghana to carry out the exercise.

A total of 415,154 people have undergone the first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination in the Bono Region, representing 48.2% of the over 860,000 people eligible for vaccination.

In a bid to boost the COVID-19 vaccine demand and meet the target of the eligible population by the end of 2022, the Bono regional deputy director, Prince Quarshie, said the initiative is to get more people vaccinated in the region.

“We hope that with the cooperation and availability of the people, we will be able to reach our target. Our target is not much; we wish to vaccinate over 50,000 people. If we do not meet our target, we should be very close to it, at least 90% of our target,” Quarshie said.

The region’s COVID-19 case count as of Monday (14 November) stood at over 2,600, with 2,595 recoveries, five active cases, and 99 deaths.

Owing to the economic instability, most Ghanaians have forgotten about the existence of the virus and the need to get vaccinated and have neglected the safety protocols to keep them safe at all times.

There has been a 34% rise in the total number of doses given over the course of the COVID-19 vaccination days, going from 9.7 million at the end of January to 13 million at the end of March.
