The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in the Bono Region fell short of its 2024 revenue goal by 24.16 million cedis.
Sector Commander Felicia Dadebo Azumah shared this update during the end of year get together and awards night held in Sunyani held on Saturday (15 February 2025).
She disclosed that the division had been assigned a target of 52.45 million cedis, but by December 2024, it had only collected 39.7 million cedis.
Azumah attributed the shortfall primarily to restrictions placed on the importation of refined vegetable cooking oil at the seaport. “This limitation significantly impacted the revenue collection for the year,” she explained.
Despite this, Azumah proudly reported that by the end of January 2025, the division had already raised 3.7 million cedis, compared to 2.8 million cedis during the same period in 2024.
“This improvement reflects the officers’ dedication and hard work,” she added, commending the team for their efforts.
Encouraging her team, Azumah urged the officers to stay focused and not become complacent.
“We must continue to strive towards exceeding our targets for 2025 while ensuring effective goods facilitation and strict enforcement,” she said.
The Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, also expressed his confidence in the Customs Division’s role in supporting the government’s economic recovery efforts.
“The government will rely on your expertise to help raise the needed revenue for our economic reset agenda,” he stated, pledging full support in combating smuggling.
In his remarks, the Deputy Commissioner of the Customs Division, Peter Ofori, who represented the Commissioner of Customs, Brigadier General Zibrim Bawah Ayorrogo, commended the officers for their dedication.
The event also recognised outstanding officers, with Sector Commander Felicia Dadebo Azumah receiving the overall best performer award. The ceremony was attended by representatives from various security agencies from both Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.
