Bono Region: Fire Service commissions modern clinic to boost healthcare for personnel and community

The Bono Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has inaugurated a modern clinic at the Sunyani Municipal Fire Station to enhance healthcare delivery for fire officers and the general public.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Acting Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong described the facility as a timely intervention that would help address the occupational health challenges faced by fire personnel.

“Our officers often endure the dangers of smoke inhalation, heat stress, and physical injuries in the line of duty. This facility is not only a health center but also a symbol of our commitment to the wellbeing of the men and women who risk their lives to protect others,” she said.

The Fire Service Regional Clinic project, which began four years ago, has now been upgraded to meet modern healthcare standards.

The facility is equipped with an ultrasound unit, diagnostic laboratory, physiotherapy center, antenatal and outpatient departments, wards, pharmacy, counselling room, and a nurses’ unit. It also features a paperless system to ensure efficiency in service delivery.

Bono Regional Fire Commander, ACFO Cecil Addo, praised the leadership of the Acting Chief Fire Officer, describing the project as transformational.

“This is not just a clinic; it is a fully functional hospital that will make a remarkable difference in the health needs of our officers and the wider Sunyani community,” he remarked.

Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, lauded the GNFS for prioritizing the welfare of its workforce and assured officers of government’s continued support.

“While this facility demonstrates your commitment to your personnel, government is equally determined to address broader operational challenges confronting the Service, so that together we can strengthen your effectiveness,” he said.

The project was made possible through a partnership with the Qatar Charity Organization, whose support ensured that the facility meets international healthcare standards.

The commissioning of the Bono Fire Service Regional Clinic marks a significant milestone in the Ghana National Fire Service’s welfare agenda, reinforcing its dual mandate of protecting lives and property while safeguarding the health wellbeing of its personnel.
