Bono East: Lands commission gets new office

The era when applicants have to travel for hours from Techiman, Kintampo, Nkoranza, Kwame-Danso and surrounding communities to access land administration services in Sunyani is now over

Benito Owusu-Bio, the deputy minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has commissioned the new digital Lands Commission office in Sunyani.

“The importance of the services of the Lands commission to the people cannot be overemphasised. Among other things, the Land Commission exists to serve the government and the general public by advising and assisting in the execution of a comprehensive programme for the registration of title to lands throughout the country and establish standards for and regulate survey and mapping of the country,” Owusu-Bio said.

He said that these are important criteria for the region’s growth, and that the new office will assist to bring land administration closer to people at the local level, resulting in more inclusive development.

“In the past, land administration services could only be accessed from the Sunyani office of Lands Commission. One can imagine the stress people of the Bono East went through in traveling to Sunyani,” the deputy minister said.

“The era when applicants have to travel for hours from Techiman, Kintampo, Nkoranza, Kwame-Danso and surrounding communities to access land administration services in Sunyani has become a thing of the past. An efficient and decentralised administration of land system will boost investment confidence in the new regions and ensure that, efficient land administration service delivery is brought to the doorsteps of every Ghanaian,” he said.

Digitalised office

The new office will operate in a fully digital environment to expedite services such as processing of documents.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Bono East regional minister Kwasi Adu Gyan urged the management of the new office to deliver effectively on their mandate to promote the judicious use of land.

For his part, the executive secretary of Lands Commission, James K Dadson said: “This signifies that, the Bono East Region is now a complete region.”
