We have been made to carry Congo’s burden, says Kagame

The Rwandan president denounced the Congolese government's support for the FDLR and the resurgence of ethnic-driven politics in the Great Lakes Region

President Paul Kagame said Rwanda cannot continue to be blamed for DR Congo’s problems, especially the insecurity in the country’s east.

He said the Congolese people must take stock of their governance issues.

“We cannot carry another country’s burden,” he said, adding that certain countries were willing to do whatever the Congolese leaders wanted “not to lose Congo” to China or Russia.

The Congolese Rwandophones should not beg for their rights, and if they do not get them, wars will result. It is up to Congo’s leaders to find solutions for their problems.

President Kagame said the targeted killings are perpetrated by the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda(FDLR), a militia linked to the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, which Congolese leaders support.

Kagame denounced the Congolese government’s support for the FDLR and the resurgence of ethnic-driven politics in the Great Lakes Region.

The Rwandan leader said that Eastern Congo had not learnt lessons from the Rwandan experience and that primitivity is a problem in Africa and developed countries.
