Bogoso-Apiate explosion: Minority calls for probe into incident

So far, 76 people in total have been directly affected by the Apiate explosion, out of whom 17 have been confirmed dead. Forty-two out of the 59 people injured are in critical condition

The Minority in Parliament has called  for a probe into the circumstances leading to an explosion at Bogoso-Apiate in the Western Region.

So far, 76 people in total have been affected in the explosion, 17 of whom have been confirmed dead. Forty-two out of the 59 people injured are in critical condition.

In a statement issued on Friday (21 January 2022), the Minority called on the government to do everything in its power to support the people affected by the explosion and improve their living condition.

“It is our firm conviction that, with strict regulatory enforcement and compliance of protocols, this unfortunate incident could have been averted.

“The Minority is therefore calling for an impartial inquiry into this heart-wrenching [sic] accident and unfortunate loss of at least 17 lives and destruction of several properties,” the statement said.

“This inquiry … will prevent the recurrence of such an incident … We therefore call on the government to do all within its powers to support the affected people in order to ameliorate their lot.”

The Minority in Parliament has received the tragic news of an explosion in Apiate, a town close to Bogoso in the Western Region in which several lives and properties were lost.

Credible reports confirm that a motorcycle ran into a vehicle carrying explosives resulting in the carnage, leading to loss of lives and destruction of property.

This incident is unacceptable because there are strict laid-down protocols to be followed during transportation of such explosives, in accordance with LI2177.

It is our firm conviction that with strict regulatory enforcement and compliance [to] protocols, this unfortunate incident could have been averted.

The Minority is therefore calling for an impartial inquiry into this heart-wrenching [sic] accident and unfortunate lost [sic] of at least seventeen lives and destruction of several properties.

This inquiry among others will prevent the recurrence of such an incident in the future [sic].

We therefore call on the government to do all within its powers to support the affected people in order to ameliorate their lost.

The Minority wish to join well-meaning Ghanaians to commiserate and share in the pain and anguish of all affected people.
