Dr Joy Kategekwa, a strategy advisor on Africa at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has said trade within Africa will take the continent to the next level.

Kategekwa said it is, therefore, essential for Africans to embrace the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to enable the continent to progress.

“I really believe that it is trade that will take Africa to the next level,” she said.

Speaking on the upcoming Africa Prosperity Dialogues dubbed Kwahu Summit 2023 on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (25 January), Kategekwa said, “The private sector is essential to the success of the AfCFTA … This is why it is essential that govt’s provide the infrastructure that will help reduce cost for production of goods by those in the private sector”

“We have to find a way to shift from ambition to action. That’s what the Africa Prosperity Dialogue is about.”

She said the Africa Prosperity Dialogues is a unique opportunity “to get business leaders, business executives and leaders of nations together in one space to interact to further kickoff the AfCFTA”.

“The Kwahu Summit is all about creating that space where Africans can meet … A space which can be leveraged for the prosperity of the continent,” Kategekwa added.

She said the summit offers a venue for “us to come together to solve problems and even better, escalate discussions; something that Africa truly needs … Especially with young innovators meeting leadership.”

The Africa Prosperity Dialogues (Kwahu Summit) is a strategic platform where the movers and shakers of the African economy will elevate the AfCTA objectives from ambitions to real actions.

The summit will be a one-of-a-kind event happening from 26th to 28th January, where African leaders from diverse areas of national endeavour will gather each year to discuss and share experiences on issues and initiatives required for Africa to achieve the goal of shared prosperity and shape the Africa Agenda for Action.

The maiden summit would focus on how to expedite the implementation of the agreed initiatives within the AfCFTA trade bloc.

It will bring into practical focus the continent’s critical challenges and industrialization priorities and advance aggressively the commercial and infrastructural interventions to achieve the vision of an Africa Beyond Aid.
