Black Stars coach Otto Addo wary of Central African Republic threat

Addo commended the fighting spirit of his team in their 2-1 comeback victory over Mali

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has urged his Black Stars side to remain focused and avoid complacency ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic (CAR) on Monday (10 June).

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Addo acknowledged the team’s morale-boosting victory over Mali on Thursday (6 June), but stressed the importance of maintaining their winning momentum.

“I think it’s going to be very, very difficult for everyone who thinks that we can just play them like that,” Addo said. “We analysed them well; they are doing well, especially in their offensive transitions, always dangerous; they’ve had one man against Mali, so we know what we have to expect. Despite the win, we can’t relax; now we have to continue.”

Addo commended his players’ fighting spirit in their comeback victory over Mali. “Big, big congratulations to the team for this fighting spirit,” he said. “Coming back after 0-1, half-time, late goal and then being mentally strong and have the right team spirit to turn this result around.”

Ghana vs. Central African Republic kicks off at 19:00 GMT on Monday (10 June) at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
