Ghanaian music star Black Sherif is winning hearts again, not just for his sound, but for his sense of history and reverence.
The award-winning artiste has dedicated his latest album, Iron Boy, to Highlife legend Amakye Dede, describing the project as a “personal and spiritual offering.”
Released on 3 April 2025, Iron Boy has already climbed to the top of Ghana’s Apple Music charts, earning widespread acclaim for its lyrical depth, cultural relevance, and sonic range.
The 15-track album features a fusion of hip-hop, Afrobeats and Highlife, with guest appearances from Nigerian artistes Fireboy DML and Seyi Vibez.
But beyond the numbers and buzz, Black Sherif says this album carries a deeper purpose. “It’s not about awards for me,” he said. “Iron Boy means more to me because it tells my story and honours those who came before me — especially Amakye Dede, who shaped so much of our sound.”
The album title itself is a direct nod to Amakye Dede, popularly known as ‘Iron Boy’ — a name that symbolises strength and legacy in Ghanaian music. With Amakye Dede marking 50 years in the industry this year, Black Sherif felt it was the right time to pay homage.
Growing up in Asante Akyem, Black Sherif says Amakye Dede’s music was a constant presence, shaping his creative vision and appreciation for storytelling through sound.
Tracks like Victory Song and So It Goes reveal a more introspective Sherif — one who is unafraid to confront pain, uncertainty, and hope through music.
Each track stands as a chapter in his life, woven together into what he calls his most meaningful body of work yet.
For Black Sherif, Iron Boy is more than an album. It’s a tribute, a testimony, and a torch passed from one generation to the next.
