Black Queens slip in latest FIFA rankings ahead of WAFCON
The team, now under the guidance of head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, has seen a decline in form in recent months, which has been reflected in the new rankings

Ghana’s senior women’s national team, the Black Queens, have dropped in both the global and continental rankings, according to the latest FIFA update released on Thursday, 12 June.
The team, now under the guidance of head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, has seen a decline in form in recent months, which has been reflected in the new rankings.
Previously ranked 65th in the world and fifth on the African continent as of March, the Black Queens have now slipped to 66th globally and sixth in Africa.
The dip follows a run of four matches since the last ranking update, during which the Queens recorded just one win, a friendly victory over Senegal. They also suffered two defeats and registered one draw, a performance that has impacted their standing.
Despite the setback, Bjorkegren’s side is intensifying preparations for the delayed 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with the hope of bouncing back and reclaiming a stronger position on the continental stage.
The latest rankings come as a timely reminder of the growing competitiveness of women’s football across Africa and the work that remains for Ghana’s Black Queens as they aim to re-establish themselves among the continent’s elite.
