Bills Micro-Credit hands suspended officers to police after viral customer assault

Bills Micro-Credit Limited, a Ghanaian microfinance company, says it had launched an internal investigation after a video circulated on social media showing an altercation between three of its field officers and a woman carrying a child.

The footage, according to the company, appears to show staff struggling with the woman after one officer allegedly seized her phone over a defaulted GHC300 loan payment. During the confrontation, the woman fell while holding her baby, as both parties exchanged words.

Bills Micro-Credit said the officers involved have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation and have been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for an independent probe.

The company also said it had reached out to the affected customer and will continue engagement as the investigation continues.

“Bills Micro-Credit Limited reiterates its commitment to professional conduct, accountability, and full cooperation with law enforcement authorities,” the statement said.
