A bench warrant issued for the arrest of Ghana’s Director of Passports has been officially withdrawn by the High Court of Justice, Criminal Division 2, following a hearing on Monday (19 May).
Presiding judge Justice Marie-Louise Simmons revoked the warrant after accepting an explanation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which stated that the Director’s absence at an earlier court date was due to unavoidable internal circumstances—not a sign of contempt.
The Director, who was not present in court, was represented by Deputy Director Mawuli Klu. Legal counsel from the Ministry’s Legal and Treaties Bureau, Hackman Khalilah and Evelyn Rita Kpobi, assured the court of the Ministry’s commitment to cooperating with judicial processes.
“The Ministry regrets the situation and affirms its willingness to support ongoing trials through verification and the provision of relevant documentation,” the legal team said.
Justice Simmons accepted the explanation and withdrew the warrant but insisted that clarification must still be provided regarding a letter dated 4 April 2025. The court ordered that the Ministry submit a detailed report through the court registry.
