Eastern Region: Construction of US$250 million centre for kids with cancer begins

The US$250 million state-of-the-art facility will, amongst others, have a 100-bed capacity to enhance the diagnostic capability and treatment of children with cancer

A groundbreaking ceremony has been held at Kyebi-Abisem in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region for the construction of a facility to cater for children suffering from cancer.

The US$250 million state-of-the-art facility will, amongst others, have a 100-bed capacity to enhance the diagnostic capability and treatment of children with cancer.

The project, which is being initiated by the Wish4Life Foundation will aim to overcome the existing healthcare disparity in survival by addressing the needs of children with cancer and making the cure for their ailment a reality.

The project is expected to be completed within two years.

The president of the foundation, Dr Tanya Trippett said the geographical location of the birth of a child must not deny them access to quality medical care.

She disclosed that her outfit will provide resources to advance infection control policies and procedures in compliance with international regulatory guidelines to minimise the risk of infection.

Trippett said the foundation cares about children in Africa, adding that they must be treated with dignity and given the lives they deserve.

The Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin said the traditional authorities will support the project, adding that it will enhance the healthcare of children in West Africa.
