Beaufort Properties defends title at RLFG Beach Rugby League

RLFG

The Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) hosted the second edition of its Beach Rugby League tournament on Saturday (21 September) at Laboma Beach Resort.

Sixteen teams, including major corporations such as Bolt Ghana, DHL, Polytank, and defending champions Beaufort Properties, competed for the title.

The event, held in conjunction with International Coastal Cleanup Day, kicked off with a communal beach clean-up.

Players, volunteers, and corporate teams joined forces to tidy the coastline before the tournament, emphasising the RLFG’s commitment to environmental sustainability alongside promoting sport.

After 31 fiercely contested matches, Beaufort Properties successfully defended their title, with the Ghana Wildlife Society coming in a close second.

Michael Agyei-Budu, CEO of Regardless Mode, a key event partner, praised the initiative: ” The competition was fierce, and seeing how everyone came together for both the game and the beach cleanup has been truly inspiring.”

Kate Opoku, Country Leader for Let’s Do It Ghana, highlighted the dual impact: “This initiative goes beyond just sports—it’s about creating lasting impact.”

RLFG General Manager Jafaru Awudu Mustapha reflected on the growing influence of the tournament:

“This year’s tournament was a testament to the growing popularity of rugby league in Ghana. The addition of the beach cleanup makes this event even more special, showing how sport can have a positive impact beyond the field.”
