Bawumia to lead NPP on six-week ‘Thank you’ tour starting 23 April

Themed “In all things, give thanks to God”, the initiative is seen as part of efforts to reconnect with the party’s base and chart a path forward after a bruising electoral defeat

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana has announced that its 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will lead a nationwide “Thank You Tour” beginning Wednesday (23 April).

The six-week tour, approved by the party’s national council, is expected to take Dr Bawumia and the NPP leadership across all 16 regional capitals. It will commence from the party’s national headquarters in Accra and conclude in the Central Region on June 4.

In a statement released on Monday (21 April) and signed by the party’s National Organiser, Nana Boakye, the NPP said the tour is meant to express the party’s “sincere and heartfelt appreciation” to its grassroots supporters and the general public for their support during the 2024 elections.

Themed “In all things, give thanks to God”, the initiative is seen as part of efforts to reconnect with the party’s base and chart a path forward after a bruising electoral defeat.

The NPP lost both the presidential and parliamentary elections in December 2024 to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with its parliamentary seats shrinking significantly from 136 to 88.

Since the loss, the party has embarked on an internal review process led by former Speaker of Parliament, Prof Aaron Mike Oquaye. Although the findings of the committee were submitted last week, the party says the contents of the report will remain confidential.

Observers say the thank you tour could help boost party morale as it regroups ahead of the next election cycle.
