Bawumia is “a good and faithful servant” – vote him into office, Ahiagbah tells Ghanaians

Bawumia is an example of the good and faithful biblical servant because he has served Ghana well and deserves commendation and reward

The director of communications for the New Patriotic Party, Richard Ahiagbah, has drawn a biblical parallel to highlight the leadership and contributions of the NPP’s presidential candidate, Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a “good and faithful servant”, in line with the parable of the bags of gold in Matthew 25:14-30.

Speaking at a press engagement at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra on Wednesday (27 November), Ahiagbah cited the parable, which tells the story of a master who entrusts three servants with varying amounts of gold before embarking on a journey.

“The first two servants double their entrusted gold, earning the master’s praise and rewards. The third servant, however, buried his gold, offering no returns, and is ultimately cast out into the darkness,” Ahiagbah said.

“Bawumia is an example of the good and faithful biblical servant because he has served Ghana well and deserves commendation and reward. Like the first two servants in the parable, the vice-president has maximised the opportunities and responsibilities entrusted to him for the betterment of the country.”

Excerpts

Richard Ahiagbah further highlighted a key excerpt from the parable: “So, take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have, will be taken from them. And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

He said that this biblical reference underscores the importance of diligence, accountability and reward for good stewardship, values that he attributed to Dr Bawumia’s leadership.

Ahiagbah lauded the vice-president’s initiatives, particularly in the areas of digital transformation, economic reforms and governance, as evidence of his effective stewardship.

“In Dr Bawumia, we see a leader who has not only been entrusted with Ghana’s resources but has also delivered tangible results that have positively impacted lives,” Ahiagbah said.

The NPP communications director called on Ghanaians to recognise and reward such commitment by supporting Bawumia in the upcoming elections.

“Wicked, lazy” Mahama

The NPP communications director said Mahama, on the other hand, is an example of the biblical “wicked and lazy servant” who did not live up to expectations during his four years as president of the republic.

“Like the master in Matthew chapter 25, Ghanaians voted to cast John Mahama out of office in 2016. Somehow, he thought the 2016 decision to cast him out of office was a flash in the pan, but in 2020, Ghanaians affirmed that 2016 decision.

“Now, in 2024, let’s, in a landslide, retire the former president from politics,” Richard Ahiagbah said.

Mismanagement

In his statement, Ahiagbah said most revealing is that the former president Mahama gave up when his mismanagement made life difficult, and Ghanaians launched street protests to demand better economic management.

“He said no amount of demonstrations would move him because he was a dead goat. The balance of a leader’s job is dealing with challenges, but the former president has shown he cannot deal with them,” Ahiagbah said.

“We must vote to show John Mahama and the NDC that we cannot afford the risk of electing a president who cannot respond to the needs of Ghanaians in challenging times.”

Forward ever

Ahiagbah argued that the former president did not perform well in office between 2013 and 2016, so he does not merit any reward from the electorates.

“This is especially true when all he has is four years, which, according to him, is not enough to make a difference. Therefore, voting for former President Mahama amounts to taking Ghana back, and we cannot afford to take Ghana backward when our peers are striving forward,” he said.

Ahiagbah added: “We, the people, are the masters of Ghana’s destiny. So, on 7 December, our decision must reflect the wisdom of the parable: to reward the good and faithful servant of the people, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, with our votes because he has shown the potential to do even better for Ghanaians as president.

“Voting starts on Monday, 2 December 2024, with special voting. Most of you here [Ahiagbah was referring to the media brie ging ] will be voting alongside the security. Please cast your ballot for Dr Mahamadu Bawumia and the NPP parliamentary candidates (number #1) in line with scriptural wisdom to protect our gains while charting a new path to make Ghana competitive in the future global economy,” he appealed.
