Bawumia: Internal attacks armed NDC’s campaign in 2024 election

Dr Bawumia added that the lack of a united front seriously undermined the party’s campaign efforts and contributed to its defeat

Former Vice President and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has said internal party divisions played a significant role in the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking at the launch of his national Thank You Tour in Takoradi on Saturday (26 April), Dr Bawumia emphasised that public criticism from within the party provided ammunition for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the campaign.

“Unity is key in every group endeavour, but for the 2024 elections we faced internal issues,” Dr Bawumia told supporters.

He noted that comments made by NPP members about their own party and government were seized upon by the NDC, who “played back these words by our own members against us through a series of adverts in the media.”

“They used the words against us, and if the attack is coming from your own members, you can imagine the effect,” he said.

Dr Bawumia added that the lack of a united front seriously undermined the party’s campaign efforts and contributed to its defeat.

He urged NPP stakeholders to prioritise unity ahead of future elections, warning that internal bickering, if left unchecked, would continue to derail the party’s ambitions.

The Thank You Tour will see Dr Bawumia travel across various regions, engaging with party faithful and reflecting on lessons from the 2024 election outcome.
