Lands Ministry refutes claim of spending GHC10 million on conferences

Alhassan Suhuyini alleged in Parliament at the Ministry had spent GHC10 million on 10 conferences and dialogues on how to fight galamsey in the country

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has rubbished claim by the Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, that the Ministry spent GHC10 million on ten conferences and dialogues in the fight against galamsey in the country.

Speaking at the last sitting of Parliament on Tuesday, 5 April 2022, the Tamale North MP also questioned how effective these dialogues and conferences have been in the fight against galamsey.

However, a statement released by the public relations unit of the Ministry on 7 April 2022, said the allegation is false and has no factual basis.

It said the Ministry’s expenses in the fight against illegal mining are not limited to conferences and dialogues but include other policies and programmes.
