Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that UK visas have been secured for Suzy Adwoa Pinamang, the student injured in a school shooting, and two caregivers accompanying her for urgent medical treatment in the United Kingdom.
In a Facebook post, Ablakwa revealed that the visas were granted following an appeal to UK High Commissioner Harriet Thompson, who he praised for her support on compassionate grounds. The Ghana High Commission in the UK has also been instructed to extend special consular privileges to Suzy and her caregivers upon their arrival.
Suzy Adwoa Pinamang, a young student with the Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School at Bantama in Kumasi, was accidentally shot by a classmate, an incident that has drawn widespread sympathy in Ghana. Her situation was brought to the Foreign Minister’s attention by Bantama MP Francis Asenso-Boakye, who requested government intervention.
Ablakwa also expressed gratitude to Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama, who has pledged to cover the full cost of Suzy’s medical treatment in the UK.
“This is testament that we can always achieve great progress when we work together,” Ablakwa stated.
The Foreign Minister offered words of encouragement to the young girl, describing her as a “brave young lady” and assuring her of the prayers and support of the Ghanaian people.
