Bagbin: Akoto Osei was a nobleman

Bagbin said the late former deputy finance minister Osei was a good and clear minded person, who never allowed emotions to cloud his thoughts

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has eulogised the late Dr Anthony Akoto Osei, a former MP of Old Tafo, describing him as a noble statesman who charted a nationalistic path and contributed to national development.

Osei died on Monday 20 March 2023 at the age of 69.

Bagbin said the former deputy finance minister was a good and clear minded person, who never allowed emotions to cloud his thoughts, when making contributions on the floor of Parliament.

The Speaker made these statements on Friday 31 March when the family of the late lawmaker paid a courtesy call on him in Parliament.

Osei first entered Parliament on 7 January 2005 in the 4th Parliament and served three terms.

The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, described Osei as an even tempered person, a trait which endeared him to all members, irrespective of their political affiliations.

The Clerk to Parliament, Cyril Oteng Nsiah, indicated that the late MP was as a deep thinker, who brought a lot of timely solutions to issues.

Osei was a cabinet member of former President John Agyekum Kufuor as minister of state for finance and economic planning and major economic advisor to the government. He helped in the management of finance and planning activities in the country.
