Baako to Opoku-Agyemang: Don’t let politics destroy your integrity

The editor-in-chief at large of the New Crusading Guide newspaper says the former NDC running mate must tread cautiously in order to safeguard her reputation

Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr, editor-in-chief at large of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, has condemned Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the former minister of education for attributing  the recent excellent “Free SHS” WASSCE results to leaked papers.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang in an interview with Woezor TV questioned why Ghanaians are celebrating the outstanding performance of the SHS students in the 2020 WASCCE exams.

“We have also heard and seen students who wrote an exams, came out and it was like, you know we had an earthquake in this country, it wasn’t like one school or two schools … this same group performance is supposed to be outstanding that we shouldn’t be talking, it is the group I am referring to,” she said.

She added: “And they went and wrote the exams we heard of the leakage of the exams, we heard of invigilators being compromised, we heard many many things and we also saw the students come out and speak about, ‘No, this is not we were told will happen’, now these students have As and we are happy? It is up to us.”

Speaking to Kojo Mensah on The Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday 4 June, the veteran journalist said Prof Opoku-Agyemang must not allow politics to ruin her career.

“This point about we heard some students, or this student say this is not what we were told will happen, what does that mean? That means that the leakage thing is the flight of somebody’s imagination because if indeed there was a deliberate attempt to coach and lead, we wouldn’t have the students out there protesting,” he said.

Baako Jnr added: “My respect for madam, she is a dignified woman, being a vice-chancellor of Cape Coast University, I pray politics doesn’t destroy her integrity. Even the specifics that she is highlighting in order to come to a conclusion are not sustainable. I am struggling to continue my submission.”

The seasoned writer said Prof Opoku-Agyemang needs to tread cautiously.

“I really respect her, and indeed, I admire her. Elevating her to a running mate was also a plus. But it appears if we are not careful… there could be a certain… it is so difficult if you want to critique such a personality. You have to be proportionate,” Baako Jnr stated.
