Austria head coach Ralf Rangnick has urged restraint in the criticism of Ghana’s national team coach Otto Addo, insisting that a change in coaching would likely not have altered the outcome of the recent match.
Speaking after the game, Rangnick cautioned against overreacting to the result, noting that single matches do not always reflect a team’s true quality or long-term potential.
“Don’t be so emotional on Otto Addo. I don’t think if you had a different coach, the result would have been any different,” he said.
The Austria manager drew on his own experience to illustrate how results can be misleading, referencing a previous heavy victory over Turkey that did not translate into success in a competitive fixture.
“We don’t overrate this game and this result. I remember we played Turkey two years ago before the Euros, we beat them 6-1. But then we played them again in the round of 16 and lost 2-1,” he explained.
Rangnick emphasised that such outcomes highlight the unpredictability of football and the importance of avoiding sweeping conclusions based on isolated performances.
His remarks come amid growing scrutiny of Addo’s leadership, with sections of fans and analysts questioning the direction of the Ghana national football team following the defeat.
However, Rangnick maintained that coaching changes are not always the solution, suggesting that broader factors often influence results on the pitch.
The comments are likely to fuel ongoing debate over the future of the Black Stars and the level of patience required as the team continues its rebuilding process.
