Attorney-General to address nation on anti-corruption efforts

Dominic Ayine, Attorney General and Minister of Justice

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, is set to hold a crucial press briefing on Monday (24 March 2025), to update the public on the government’s intensified efforts to recover misappropriated public funds.

The briefing, part of the government’s anti-corruption drive under Operation Recover All Loots (ORAL), comes amid a crackdown on individuals implicated in financial misconduct.

Major investigations underway

Recent weeks have seen a series of legal actions targeting individuals linked to corruption cases. Among those under investigation is Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, a former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) and the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).

He was detained by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on 23rd February over his alleged role in approving a $2 million US dollars payment under GIIF.

Additionally, law enforcement agencies have been directed to question other individuals cited in ongoing corruption probes.

A key development in this effort occurred on Wednesday (19 March) when state security officials conducted a court-sanctioned search of the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.

According to Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem-Sai, the search was carried out in accordance with legal procedures.

Billions in public funds at stake

Findings from the ORAL report indicate that 36 corruption cases under review could lead to the recovery of approximately $20.49 billion US dollars in public funds.

These revelations have heightened public interest in the government’s anti-corruption campaign, with many anticipating firm action against perpetrators.

Upcoming media briefing

Minister for Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the upcoming press conference in a Facebook post on March 22. Dr. Ayine’s address is expected to shed light on the progress of investigations, legal actions taken so far, and strategies to retrieve lost public funds.

With mounting public scrutiny, the briefing is expected to set the tone for the government’s broader commitment to accountability and financial justice.
