Walewale: Bawumia pays medical bills of robbery victim

One of the robbery victims, Iddrisu Yakubu Baba, alias Battler, who is currently responding to treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, needed GHC 28,000 to undergo surgery after the attack

Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia has paid the medical bills of Iddrisu Yakubu Baba, who was hit by a stray bullet in a recent robbery attack in Walewale in the North East Region.

The robbery occurred on Monday (12 February 2024), and nine people were shot during the attack.

Two people, Bilal Rabiu, 32 (a mobile money vendor) and Sumani Alhassan, 27, (a student nurse), lost their lives while six others were discharged from the hospital after sustaining several degrees of injuries.

One of the victims, Iddrisu Yakubu Baba, alias Battler, who is currently responding to treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, needs an amount of GHC28,000 to undergo surgery after the attack.

The family of Baba have been appealing to the public for assistance for him to undergo the treatment.

In response, Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia, has today (26 February 2024) donated an amount of GHC30,000 to pay for the entire cost of the surgery.

The West Mamprusi municipal chief executive, Issahak Arimeyaw Basintale Somo Lucky, and some executives of the Walewale Youth Association presented the money to the Yakubu Baba’s relatives at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

“The family solicited support from the general public so I quickly contacted the vice-president and he donated GHC30,000 for the cost of the surgery,” the MCE said.

The staff of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), including the director of Medical Services, Professor Alhassan Dramani thanked the vice-president for his unwavering support in getting the patient treated
