The Attorney-General, Dominic Ayine, has vehemently denied allegations of corruption made against him by Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, describing the claims as “palpable falsehoods” and “cowardly social media attacks”.
Addressing the media in Accra on Wednesday (30 April), Ayine clarified that he has never stolen public funds or received a bribe in his life.
“All those who have dealt with me know this for a fact, and the President would not have appointed me if he had questions about my integrity,” he stated.
The allegations, which accused Ayine of manipulating parliamentary committee membership for the passage of the Sanitation Levy to benefit a friend, were described as baseless.
“I was never involved in the passage of the Sanitation Levy, as I was not a member of the Finance Committee,” Ayine stressed, producing Parliamentary reports and proceedings to support his claim.
He further challenged A-Plus to publicly present evidence of his accusations or submit it to law enforcement authorities for investigation.
“I think through the consequences of my actions. That is what we were taught in Notre Dame Minor Seminary, and I have kept faith with that principle,” Ayine remarked, taking a jab at A-Plus’s warning to him not to “do anything silly.”
