Assembly Members confirm Ben Abdallah Alhassan as Asokore Mampong MCE

The vote, which followed a contentious election earlier in the day for the long-vacant position of Presiding Member, underscores the strong backing for his appointment

Ben Abdallah Alhassan, nominated by President John Dramani Mahama for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, has received overwhelming endorsement from Assembly Members.

In a decisive vote held at an emergency meeting, Mr. Alhassan secured 17 ‘Yes’ votes and just one ‘No’ vote from a total of 18 ballots cast by elected Assembly Members and government appointees.

The vote, which followed a contentious election earlier in the day for the long-vacant position of Presiding Member, underscores the strong backing for his appointment.

Alhassan’s nomination, however, sparked mixed reactions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawase Constituency. While some party members voiced opposition, others hailed his leadership abilities, citing his experience as the NDC’s Director of Research and Elections for the Asawase Constituency.

His confirmation brings with it the weighty responsibility of addressing key challenges facing the municipality, including sanitation issues, infrastructure deficits, and rising concerns over indiscipline.

These issues have long been a source of public discontent in the area.

Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, Member of Parliament for Asawase, welcomed the appointment and urged the new MCE to work collaboratively with Assembly Members to fast-track development in the region.

“We must put the development of our communities at the forefront,” Muntaka stated, emphasizing the need for unity and collective effort in tackling the municipality’s pressing concerns.

As Alhassan prepares to take on his new role, all eyes will be on his ability to navigate the complexities of local governance and deliver tangible results for the people of Asokore Mampong.
