Asogli State Council destools Togbe Afiatsoa III over misconduct

According to Togbe Adubobi IV, Akordor repeatedly disrespected the Council’s authority and engaged in actions deemed disruptive to the peace and unity of the Ho Bankoe community and the broader Asogli State

The Asogli State Council in Ho has officially destooled Togbe Afiatsoa III, the Mankrado of Ho Bankoe and Afetorfia of the Muviefe Clan, over allegations of gross misconduct and insubordination.

The decision, which takes immediate effect, was announced during a traditional ceremony at the Asogli State Palace on Thursday (17 April 2025). Togbe Afiatsoa III, known in private life as Fred Yao Akordor, was enstooled in June 2023.

According to Togbe Adubobi IV, who represented the Agbogbomefia, Togbe Afede XIV, at the ceremony, Akordor repeatedly disrespected the Council’s authority and engaged in actions deemed disruptive to the peace and unity of the Ho Bankoe community and the broader Asogli State.

“He has been removed from all chieftaincy-related activities and programmes. He no longer holds any title and should be addressed by his private name,” Togbe Adubobi IV stated.

Among the reasons cited for his destoolment were the use of offensive language towards elders, threats of curses on the Paramount Queen, Mamaga Akua Dei II, and his absence from the 2024 Asogli Te Za celebrations. He is also alleged to have discouraged members of the Muviefe clan from participating in traditional events.

In October 2024, the Queenmothers of Asogli petitioned the Agbogbomefia, calling for Mr Akordor’s removal after he allegedly invoked curses on Mamaga Akua Dei II, accusing her of occupying a role he believed was rightfully his.

Mama Bobi, who presented the petition on behalf of the Queenmothers, described the incident as “deeply reprehensible and entirely unbecoming of a chief of Bankoe.”

Addressing the Asogli State Council, Togbe Adubobi IV said the Agbogbomefia made several attempts to advise Akordor, all of which were ignored.

“Today, the Agbogbomefia says enough is enough. He can no longer work with someone who refuses to take instructions but rather seeks to elevate himself above traditional authority,” he said.

He further warned the media against offering Akordor a platform. “Any media house that allows him to speak on chieftaincy matters will be in contempt of the authority of the Agbogbomefia,” he added.

As part of the destoolment rites, a ram was slaughtered, libation was poured, and members of the Asafo group chanted traditional war songs to signify the decision.
