The much-anticipated Nollywood production Aso Ebi Diaries premieres in cinemas across Ghana and Nigeria this weekend, with showings scheduled at major locations including Silverbird Cinemas at Accra Mall and West Hills Mall on Friday (18 April 2025).
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Biodun Stephen and produced under the banner of Lady Laide Films, Aso Ebi Diaries offers an authentic portrayal of Nigerian culture, shining a spotlight on the Aso Ebi tradition — a long-standing practice where family and friends wear coordinated outfits to express solidarity and celebration.
Set against the backdrop of a lavish Lagos wedding, the film follows the journey of a bride, portrayed by Nancy Isime, as she attempts to orchestrate her dream ceremony amidst clashing personalities, hidden secrets, and unresolved tensions among her inner circle.
The ensemble cast features some of Nollywood’s finest, including Shaffy Bello, Kunle Remi, Bukky Wright, Chizzy Alichi, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (popularly known as Kie Kie), Daniel Etim Effiong, Daniel Lloyd, Kalu Ikeagwu, and Fadekemi Olumide-Aluko.
Beyond its engaging storyline, Aso Ebi Diaries promises a visual treat with vibrant cinematography by Barnabas Emordi and stunning costume design by Yolanda Okereke and Janet Aiyegbusi.
The film’s rich aesthetic brings to life the colour and grandeur synonymous with Nigerian ceremonies.
Written by Frances Okeke and produced by Laide Daramola and Taiwo Adebayo, the film presents a thoughtful blend of drama, comedy, and cultural reflection.
With themes of love, loyalty, and identity, Aso Ebi Diaries is poised to resonate deeply with audiences across West Africa.
